Why do we trust? Whom do we trust? Why it hurts so much to be betrayed? Is this just a random game of possibility? Could maths be the answer?
Of course, there are the people who trust no one. Ever. This is safe but I guess lonely or even dysfunctional.
There are those who put people to the test and don’t trust until they feel reassured. Can they please go on the web and share their methods? But even if we assume a method exists, once someone is in the green zone, there is no guarantee they will or should stay there. This is again so time consuming if not exhausting.
There are the ones who just trust everybody. Happy and lazy but with increased chances of heartbreak and risking quite some damage for secrets made public.
Is it a matter of living a life so honest that in the end trusting others is not needed?
One way or another we all play the game of trust. And even though we have all been disappointed or heart broken and everything in between by the lack of trust, we might as well consider betraying others too. When? When it serves our best interests, without realizing, to impress someone else, just because we underestimate how important it is.
Finally, something so vague and versatile has established the credit system, which in turn has propelled modern economy, or breach of trust has established and ancient and still thriving industry like lawyers. Phycologists I would assume deal a lot with the issue too (some people who struggle to commit have infamous trust issues).
But it is all random? We trust until we don’t. We trust Mary over John relying on gut instinct. We play our chances (or rely on probability depending how scientific you prefer to be here).
We vote, trusting people will deliver on their program. We hire trusting people will do their jobs. I don’t even need to give exa moles here to make the point how futile trust has proven.
I am so concerned, so puzzled and so hurt (or have been) but I trust you can help me make sense of this one too…
