It is a common theme that Lion is the King of the Jungle. Ok they are blond, with rich manes and sexy voices. Behind the inspiring looks (which got them the interview) they have, in fact, an irresistible power that got them the job: they can eat you… So, they rule by fear: they are carnivorous with strong teeth and front legs and merciless jaws.

Ok. What do they do with their blessings? They rape the lioness, sleep all day. Full stop. Honestly, full stop. That is how much they accomplish in a day! Even for the very job they should be bothered with, prey, they delegate! Those strong legs and merciless jaws go to waste… They send the lioness to hunt! She is obviously less strong but you know, management is not about efficiency is about looking good, right?

Now if you think about it, they delegated the hunting to the lionesses but then they also delegated everything to the lionesses. The females take care of the cavehold and the cubs. This does not seem like a fair nor efficient management does it? But, sorry, we explained that already. Management is not about efficiency. Besides, if you can to everything wrong and still be the King, obviously you are doing everything right rather….

Now the elephants. Happy funny animals. Vegans. Cool. They live their lives forming strong and stable families and they go about in teams. Real teams. The I will have your back kind of teams.

They will not harm unless they need to protect. They will only harm to the extent needed. They know they are powerful. Their size speaks by itself. They are just powerful though. Not fearful. They can’t eat you.

So? Because we are not afraid of them, we don’t respect them as much. We chose those who can eat us alive as Kings instead. The happy, empathetic, protective, wise elephants, they are not Kings. They belong in the circus!

Pause. Think of the analogy. Think about those the humans in corporate, politics or households chose for leaders. Pause. Think again. Pause. Think why.

Fear? Is fear really the wise, sapiens choice? Succumbing to the lazy and the useless only because of their sexy mane? Worshipping our murderers? Come on human, you are not in the jungle any more. Perhaps it’s time to think of leadership outside the cave…
