I receive a ton of ad emails with this title now that we get into autumn. They are trying to sell me suits, leather goods that are office appropriate and everything that comes with it.
I must admit though that (a) quite a few people work from home a lot – so maybe they are good target for comfy houseware still (b) quite a few people don’t work in an office (c) quite a few offices no longer care about office appropriate old school atttire so a blazer is something these people have not worn in a decade (d) honestly, most people who work in an office left office for only a couple of weeks and that could have been a while back. So the cheesy “back to the office” email banner seems irrelevant and exaggerating.
Makes me wonder then what is going here. Fashion has not really picked up on modern work life trends? Fashion has run out of marketing ideas and keeps the tweaked “Backt to school” tagline out of stagnation? Fashion is actually advocating for a life back to the office, taking sides in the fight between traditional office and home office? Is that war silently over?
The global warming is also stepping in here. Summer never really came in the greatest part of Europe or has not left the Mediterranean yet for example. Fashion appears to have missed that trend too.
I was hoping that fashion people are a step ahead, full of inspiration, can shape the world and move it forward, think outside the box, offer beauty and art to the ordinary and the functional. It has been a while that fashion just recycles its designs (without recycling its materials).
All the emails I get these days give me this Deja vu feeling and feel irrelevant. Someone should offer some inspiration ahead of gloomy autumn please. Someone should help me make sense of this one too…
